When to use this tool

Use the split tool when you only need part of a document, need to split a PDF file in pages for filing individually, or need to break a large file into smaller chunks for email attachments or printing.

Privacy and output

Splitting happens entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your file is never uploaded to a server. A single result downloads as a PDF. Multiple results are bundled into a ZIP so you are not clicking through dozens of individual save dialogs.

Extract pages

Enter a page range like 1-3, 5 to keep only those pages in a single output PDF. Use this when you need a specific section — a chapter, signature pages, or a short excerpt.

Split into chunks

Set how many pages each part should have and the tool creates equal-sized files. Useful when a large PDF exceeds email attachment limits or a print job needs to be broken into manageable batches.

One file per page

Split PDF pages into individual files — one PDF per page. Right for scanned packets where each page is a separate invoice, form, or document that needs to be filed or distributed individually.

Need a scanner? Document scanners on Amazon range from compact portable models to high-speed desktop sheet feeders.

Split PDF FAQ

Can I extract only a few pages? Yes. Enter page ranges like 1-3, 5 in extract mode to keep only those pages in a new file.

Can I split a PDF into equal parts? Yes. Switch to chunk mode, set the number of pages per file, and the tool produces a set of smaller PDFs bundled in a ZIP.

Do the files get uploaded? No. The split process runs in your browser using pdf-lib. Your document never leaves your device.

What happens to bookmarks after splitting? Bookmarks and internal page links that reference pages not included in the output will no longer work. This is normal for page-level splitting.

Can I split a password-protected PDF? Not directly. Encrypted PDFs need to be unlocked by another tool first. Once the password is removed, you can split them here.

What if the split creates many files? When the output contains more than one PDF, the tool bundles them into a single ZIP file so you only need to save one download.

Can I unmerge or dismerge a PDF? Yes. If you have a combined PDF and need to separate it back into individual documents, use the split tool — load the file and either extract specific page ranges or use one-file-per-page mode to fully dismerge it.
